Congressman Robert B. Aderholt, representing Alabama's 4th district and serving as Chairman of the House Values Action Team, announced the passage of H.R. 28, known as the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act. The legislation was passed by the House and aims to address fairness in athletics.

"Today’s passage of H.R. 28, The Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act, is a victory for fairness and common sense in athletics," stated Congressman Aderholt. He highlighted that this legislation seeks to reaffirm Title IX's original intent by ensuring fair competition for women and girls in sports. He expressed appreciation for Speaker Johnson, Chairman Walberg, Representatives Steube, Miller, Van Duyne, and Riley Gaines for their leadership on this matter.

The bill proposes amendments to the Education Amendments of 1972 to align with Title IX's original purpose. It specifies that sex should be recognized based on reproductive biology and genetics at birth. Furthermore, it clarifies that federal funding recipients violate Title IX if they allow individuals whose sex is male to compete in programs intended for women or girls.
