Congressman Robert Aderholt announced that the U.S. Department of Transportation has allocated a $20,390,010 grant to Cullman for the St. Bernard Bridge Replacement Project. This funding is part of the FY25-26 Rural MPDG Program and aims to replace and relocate the existing two-lane bridge on US Hwy 278/SR 69 over Eight Mile Creek.

Alongside this federal grant, Congressman Aderholt has secured an additional $11 million through the House-passed FY2025 Transportation, Housing and Urban Development appropriations bill to support the project's costs and ensure its timely completion.

"I was proud to write a letter of support for the City of Cullman in securing this vital infrastructure investment," said Congressman Aderholt. "Replacing and widening the St. Bernard Bridge is crucial for enhancing transportation safety and efficiency in our region. This project will not only improve traffic flow along US Hwy 278 but will also support economic growth and ensure our infrastructure can meet future demands."

The project includes widening US Hwy 278 from 4th Avenue to just beyond St. Bernard Drive, which will align the adjoining roadway with the new bridge. These improvements are expected to reduce congestion and enhance connectivity for local residents and businesses.

"I will continue to work to secure the necessary resources for our district’s infrastructure needs, and I look forward to seeing the positive impact this project will have on Cullman and the surrounding communities," Aderholt added.

The Office of the Secretary of Transportation will oversee disbursement of the grant funds.
