Congressman Robert Aderholt, co-chair of the Congressional Coalition on Adoption, has joined a bipartisan group of lawmakers urging the Trump Administration to address China's suspension of its intercountry adoption program. This suspension, which began in August 2024, has affected many American families waiting to adopt children from China.

"The sudden termination of China's adoption program has left many children and American families in a state of uncertainty and distress," said Congressman Aderholt. He expressed concern for the well-being of these children and the emotional impact on families who have been preparing to welcome them.

Aderholt and his colleagues have sent a letter to the Trump Administration requesting it prioritize this issue in discussions with China. The letter highlights the need to finalize pending adoptions so that these children can join their adoptive families in the United States.

"We request that the Administration act in the best interest of these children and engage the Chinese government to finalize these pending adoption cases," states the letter. It notes that many affected children have special health care needs or are close to aging out of eligibility for adoption.

The letter was signed by several Senators and Representatives from both parties, including Senator Amy Klobuchar, Senator Kevin Cramer, Senator Chuck Grassley, Representative Danny Davis, among others.
