Reminder the Deadline to Apply for Pig Squeal is Nov 14th

It's time to register for Pig Squeal! What is it?The 4-H Pig Squeal project is designed to teach 4-H members recommended management practices for growing and raising swine.  Your participation in the 4-H Pig Squeal project will help you….Develop swine management skillsLearn to produce healthy hogsDevelop an awareness of business managementDevelop record-keeping skills (income and expenses)Realize the pride of accomplishmentHow the Pig Squeal project works:At the first of January, you will receive 2 feeder pigs that are approximately 60 days old, weigh approximately 50 pounds, and are barrows (castrated males).  They will all come from a reputable nursery and will be properly vaccinated.  You will care for these pigs for approximately 120 days.  At the end of this time, you will bring one of the hogs to the Northwest Alabama 4-H Pig Squeal Show and Auction (April 29, 2023). They will be shown and auctioned off at this time with you receiving prize money and a portion of the auction proceeds. The auctioned hogs will be processed and delivered to the prospective bidder. The bidder will not have to take possession of a live animal.  

The Pig Squeal Show and Auction is scheduled for April 29, 2023, at the Fayette Multipurpose Complex.For more information or to register, please contact the Extension office.DEADLINE is November 14, 2022.
