There were nine businesses registered in cities across St. Clair County in week ending Jan. 21

There were nine businesses that registered in cities within St. Clair County in the week ending Jan. 21, according to the Alabama Secretary of State.

This is 31 percent less than the week before, when 13 businesses were registered.

Pell City registered the most businesses in St. Clair County.

More than 99 percent of Alabama's businesses are considered small, with more than 47 percent of Alabama's employees working for a small business, according to the U.S. Small Business Administration.

A Civic Economics study found $100 spent at a locally-owned business puts $47 back into the local economy while the total is just $13 for non-local businesses.
