Village at Cook Springs Skilled Nursing Facility led St. Clair County as the largest nursing home during the initial quarter of 2026, data from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) show.

The nursing home offered 168 beds, which is 74 more than the county average in the first quarter of 2026. The facility supported an average of 132.9 residents over that time frame.

CMS gave Village at Cook Springs Skilled Nursing Facility an overall rating of 1 out of 5, trailing the Alabama state nursing home average of 3.

For the same quarter, Diversicare of Pell City ranked as the second largest St. Clair County facility with 94 beds, while Meadowview Nursing Center held the third spot, offering 59 beds.

Village at Cook Springs Skilled Nursing Facility reported no fines or penalties in the first quarter of 2026.

There was one non-profit nursing home operating in St. Clair County, Alabama, during this period.

U.S. Census Bureau estimates indicate the U.S. older adult population continues to increase as younger groups shrink. Between 2020 and 2024, the number of Americans age 65 and above grew by 13%, while those under 18 declined by 1.7%. The nation’s older adult population has risen sharply over the past 100 years—from 4.9 million in 1920 to more than 61 million in 2024.

A 2021 study found that close to half of U.S. adults in this age group, almost 28 million, may need long-term services and supports, with over one-third expected to require nursing home care eventually.

“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance, an insurance education group. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
