Congressman Robert Aderholt has joined forces with Congressman Brian Babin to co-sponsor the Birthright Citizenship Act. The legislation, introduced by Babin, aims to amend the interpretation of birthright citizenship under the 14th Amendment. According to Aderholt, Congress holds the authority to clarify Constitutional Amendments to ensure they reflect their original intent.

The proposed Birthright Citizenship Act stipulates that automatic U.S. citizenship will only be granted to children born in the United States if at least one parent is a U.S. citizen or national, a lawful permanent resident living in the country, or a lawful immigrant serving in the U.S. Armed Forces.

Aderholt expressed his commitment by stating, "I am committed to ensuring that our nation's laws uphold the principles upon which they were founded. The Birthright Citizenship Act is a necessary measure to preserve the integrity of American citizenship and to prevent the exploitation of our immigration system."

Babin also emphasized fairness and legal respect, noting, "America's citizenship laws should reflect fairness and respect for the rule of law." He further added that this legislation seeks to correct misuse and address loopholes leading to illegal immigration and birth tourism.

The Center for Immigration Studies reports that one in ten births in America involves an illegal immigrant mother. Additionally, nearly 400,000 expectant mothers cross into the United States illegally each year with intentions of giving birth. Once these children obtain automatic citizenship, they can initiate chain migration for extended family members' legal residency—a practice linked with global birth tourism exploiting current loopholes in U.S. immigration laws.

This bill introduction aligns with former President Donald Trump's commitment to prioritizing birthright citizenship reform.
