Congressman Robert Aderholt of Alabama has announced his support for a new piece of legislation that aims to ensure all U.S. flags purchased by the federal government are made in America using domestic materials. This initiative, introduced by Congressman Nick Langworthy of New York, seeks to close existing loopholes that currently allow foreign-manufactured flags to be used by federal agencies.
“The American flag is more than just a symbol—it represents our nation’s values, history, and the sacrifices made by those who have fought to defend our freedoms,” stated Congressman Aderholt. He emphasized the importance of ensuring these flags are produced domestically, saying it is “only right” that they are made in the United States with American labor and materials.
At present, there is no requirement for federal agencies to purchase 100% American-made U.S. flags. The proposed American-made Flag Act would change this, ensuring taxpayer money supports American businesses and workers. Aderholt described the legislation as “a commonsense step in putting American manufacturing first.” He noted that the country has both the capability and resources to produce its own flags without relying on imports.
Aderholt has been a consistent advocate for policies favoring American industry and domestic manufacturing. His backing of this bill reflects his broader commitment to prioritizing American jobs and products in government procurement practices.
The bill has attracted bipartisan support and is currently being reviewed by the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability.
