On November 5, 2025, Robert Aderholt, U.S. Congressman representing Alabama’s 4th district since 1997, used his social media platform to comment on the ongoing government shutdown and issues of religious persecution.
In a post published at 17:35 UTC, Aderholt stated, “On Day 36 of the shutdown, congressional Democrats have now set the record for the longest government shutdown in history. Millions of Americans are paying the price while Senate Democrats refuse to act. It is time for Democrats to end the shutdown and choose people over”.
Later that day at 18:46 UTC, he tagged several colleagues in a tweet without additional commentary: @GOPMajorityWhip @RepLisaMcClain @RepBrecheen @RepMaryMiller @RepMarkAlford @virginiafoxx @RepMoolenaar @USRepGaryPalmer @RepDonBacon @RepSheriBiggs @RepGusBilirakis @JudgeCarter @RepBenCline @RepGrothman @RepMichaelGuest @RepAndyHarrisMD @RepRichHudson @RepLoudermilk @RepMessmer.
Aderholt also addressed international religious freedom concerns in another post from the same minute, writing: “Proud to be joined by members of the House Values Action Team to commend President Trump’s leadership and call for the end of Christian persecution in Nigeria. The United States will not remain silent, will not be complacent, and will not turn away while Christians face violence”.
Aderholt has served continuously in Congress since replacing Tom Bevill in 1997. Before joining Congress, he was a member of the Alabama House of Representatives. Born in Haleyville, Alabama in 1965, Aderholt graduated from Birmingham–Southern College with a BA and later earned his JD from Samford University.
