Hanceville Nursing & Rehab Center, Inc. operated as the largest nursing home in Cullman County during the initial quarter of 2026, data from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) shows.

The facility offered 208 beds, which was 69 more than the county average for that period. On average, 189.2 residents were cared for at the center throughout the quarter.

The CMS assigned an overall rating of 2 out of 5 to Hanceville Nursing & Rehab Center, Inc., a result below the Alabama state average of 3 for nursing homes.

Woodland Village Rehabilitation and Healthcare Cen was the second largest facility in Cullman County for the quarter, maintaining 149 available beds. Third place was Folsom Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center, with 102 beds available.

Hanceville Nursing & Rehab Center, Inc. reported no fines or penalties during the first quarter of 2026.

Cullman County, Alabama, had a total of four for-profit nursing homes at that time.

U.S. Census Bureau data indicates the population of older adults nationwide is climbing, while younger age groups decline. Between 2020 and 2024, the number of Americans 65 and older grew by 13%, as the under-18 population decreased by 1.7%. Over the past century, the older adult population in the country has surged, from 4.9 million in 1920 to more than 61 million by 2024.

A 2021 report estimates about half of this group, or roughly 28 million people, could require long-term services and supports. It also projects that more than a third may eventually need care in a nursing home.

“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
