Congressman Robert Aderholt has announced that the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) will provide over $1.9 million in federal Airport Infrastructure Grants to two regional airports in Alabama’s 4th Congressional District. The funds are intended for significant improvements at Cullman Regional Airport and Albertville Regional Airport.
“These federal investments in airport infrastructure are vital to supporting economic growth and public safety across North Alabama,” stated Congressman Aderholt. He emphasized the importance of upgrading aviation facilities to ensure they continue serving communities effectively. Both Cullman and Albertville airports will benefit from these grants for construction and modernization projects.
Cullman Regional Airport, also known as Folsom Field, is set to receive $1,011,708. This funding is allocated for constructing a new 600-foot Midfield Taxiway to accommodate increased aircraft activity. The grant supports Phase 2 of this project, focusing on its construction phase. The City and County of Cullman are the recipients of this grant under FAA Grant Number 3-01-0022-037-2025.
Albertville Regional Airport, known as Thomas J. Brumlik Field, will receive $939,038. This amount is designated for reconstructing runway and taxiway lighting on Runway 5/23 and Taxiway A, which have reached the end of their service life. The City of Albertville is the recipient under FAA Grant Number 3-01-0004-038-2025.
Ben Harrison, Director of Cullman Regional Airport, expressed gratitude for the funding: “We are thankful for this grant and the opportunities it will provide to develop the airport for the next 10–15 years.” He highlighted collaboration with various stakeholders including the airport board, city council, county commission, ALDOT Aeronautics, FAA, and engineers in developing a project beneficial to the community.
Aderholt added that these grants would help local airports meet modern safety standards while serving community needs: “Airports like Cullman and Albertville are vital assets for rural areas, supporting both economic development and emergency services.”
