Congressman Robert Aderholt announced on May 6 the launch of the Rural Hospital Provider Assistance Program, a new initiative from the Department of Health and Human Services and the Health Resources and Services Administration. The program aims to provide direct financial assistance to rural hospitals.
The announcement is significant for rural healthcare providers, especially in Alabama, where nearly 30 hospitals are eligible for grants. Five of these hospitals are located in Alabama’s Fourth Congressional District: Fayette, Lakeland, Marion Regional, Northwest, and Russellville. Each grant is estimated at around $150,000, though final amounts will depend on the number of eligible applicants.
“As Chairman of the Appropriations Subcommittee overseeing health funding, I was proud to secure and advance the Rural Hospital Provider Assistance Program through the Fiscal Year 2026 Consolidated Appropriations Act,” said Congressman Robert Aderholt. “This initiative reflects a deliberate commitment to ensuring our rural hospitals have the resources they need to survive and serve their communities. Through this program, eligible hospitals will receive direct financial assistance to help maintain and strengthen essential healthcare services.”
Applications for funding under this program will close on July 1.
Aderholt has served in Congress representing Alabama’s Fourth District since 1997 after replacing Tom Bevill. He previously served in the Alabama House of Representatives according to Congress.gov. Born in Haleyville in 1965, Aderholt graduated from Birmingham–Southern College with a Bachelor of Arts degree before earning his Juris Doctor from Samford University according to Congress.gov.
Looking ahead, hospital administrators across Alabama may look to these grants as an opportunity to bolster local health services.
