Congressman Robert Aderholt (AL-04) participated in the groundbreaking ceremony for a new library and community center in Russellville, Alabama, after securing nearly $3.9 million in federal funding through the Community Project Funding initiative. The planned Norris Public Library is expected to serve as an important hub for the rural community.
At a city council meeting held at the construction site, council members voted unanimously to name the facility Norris Public Library, acknowledging the Norris family’s donation of land for the project. The council also recognized Congressman Aderholt’s role in obtaining federal investment for Russellville. Mayor David Grissom presented Aderholt with the Key to the City during the event.
“This facility represents an investment in literacy, connectivity, and community for Russellville,” said Congressman Aderholt. “I’m honored to have helped secure the resources our community needs—a public library, broadband access, and space for gathering—so families here can thrive.”
Mayor Grissom stated: “We are deeply grateful to the Norris family for their land gift and to Congressman Aderholt for securing the full funding we need. The Norris Public Library will be a gateway to opportunities for generations to come.”
The allocated funds will go toward constructing a new library and multipurpose center on land behind City Hall. This new facility aims to provide broadband internet access, educational programs, meeting space, and expanded access to literature and technology—services that are not available at Russellville’s current downtown library.
Robert Aderholt has represented Alabama’s 4th District in Congress since 1997 following his previous service in the Alabama House of Representatives (https://aderholt.house.gov/about). He was born in Haleyville, Alabama in 1965 and resides there today. He earned his undergraduate degree from Birmingham–Southern College and later received his law degree from Samford University.
