Congressman Robert Aderholt announced that the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) has approved a grant of $249,750 for the City of Guin’s Sewer Package Plant Rehabilitation Project. The funding will be used to upgrade an existing sewer facility, aiming to maintain wastewater service, meet regulatory requirements, and support future development in Guin.
“I’m proud to announce this important investment in Guin’s infrastructure,” Aderholt said. “Reliable sewer systems are critical to protecting public health, supporting economic development, and ensuring that our communities can continue to grow. This project will help modernize an aging facility, prevent future system failures, and ensure that Guin’s residents and businesses have dependable wastewater services for years to come.”
The planned work includes installing a temporary processing plant while upgrades are made. Outdated components will be removed, and tasks such as drainage, cleaning, sandblasting, and painting will be performed. New pumps, blowers, air piping, diffusers, control boxes, and related equipment will also be installed. Once the rehabilitation is complete and the updated facility is operational, the temporary plant will be taken out.
The ARC funds are designated for replacing about 150 linear feet of liquid piping and 250 linear feet of hot air piping. These improvements are expected to enhance reliability for two local businesses served by the plant.
The total project cost is $499,500. In addition to the federal grant from ARC, the City of Guin will provide $249,750 in local matching funds.
“The Appalachian Regional Commission continues to be a great partner in improving infrastructure across Alabama’s Fourth District,” Aderholt said. “These investments help small towns like Guin strengthen their communities, create opportunities, and lay the foundation for future growth.”
Robert Aderholt has represented Alabama’s 4th district in Congress since 1997 after succeeding Tom Bevill. He previously served in the Alabama House of Representatives. Born in Haleyville in 1965, Aderholt graduated from Birmingham–Southern College in 1987 with a bachelor’s degree and earned his law degree from Samford University in 1990.
