Congressman Robert Aderholt announced on Mar. 13 that the Appalachian Regional Commission has awarded a $1 million grant to the Lauderdale County Commission to support workforce training in Lauderdale County.
The funding will be used to purchase and install specialized equipment at the new Lauderdale County Workforce Training Center, which is nearing completion. The center aims to provide training and certification programs in fields such as welding, mechatronics, aircraft maintenance, power generation system maintenance, and machine tool technology. Approximately 150 students are expected to benefit from these workforce training opportunities.
“North Alabama continues to experience strong economic growth, particularly in industries like aerospace, automotive, and advanced manufacturing,” Aderholt said. “This investment will help ensure our local workforce has the skills needed to fill these good-paying jobs and support continued economic development across our region.”
The total project investment will reach $2 million with an additional $1 million in local matching funds. Aderholt highlighted the role of the Appalachian Regional Commission as a partnership between federal, state, and local governments focused on strengthening economic opportunity in Appalachia. “ARC is an important partnership between the federal government, states, and local communities, and it is funded by Congress to help strengthen economic opportunity across Appalachia,” Aderholt said. “I strongly support these types of investments because they help build a skilled workforce, attract employers, and create long-term prosperity for our communities.”
Lauderdale County has seen significant growth recently, increasing demand for skilled workers in local industries. The new center is intended to prepare students and workers for high-wage careers in the region.
